Episode 16: Honey Teriyaki Salmon

Lately, I've been trying to eat a little healthier to get myself back into shape. I have a tendency to start obsessing over random foods once I start eating them. As you may have guessed, salmon is one of them. A few months ago, I ate grapefruits like my life depended on it. I would crave it every day and eat one every meal. Eventually, I got over it and stopped since it's not really good to eat too much of one thing. So glad that watermelon and mango season is coming so I can munch on those now!

So back to the salmon, I was at the supermarket, looking for foods to buy for this week when I came across the salmon section. I've been ordering it a lot whenever I go out to eat lately, so I decided to try to make my own. I looked up a recipe online (here), but I didn't have all the ingredients that they listed so I used it as my base recipe and added a few other ingredients to it. I love this website because it allows you to adjust the servings to how ever many people you need! Makes my life so much easier...

It ended up tasting really good! My sister isn't a fan of salmon because she thinks it's fishy smelling/tasting, but she ended up really enjoying it and wanted to learn it for herself too. :) I feel like I'm converting her... first, I got her obsessed with grapefruits with me, and now possibly salmon. At least they're healthy, I guess!

Anyways, here's what I used:

-from base recipe-
1 TBSP of Sesame Oil
1 TBSP of Lemon Juice
1 TBSP of Soy Sauce
1 Salmon Steak (or Fillet Salmon)

-additional ingredients-
1 TSP of sugar (They used brown sugar, but I didn't have any.)
1 clove of Garlic, diced
3-4 TBSP of Teriyaki Sauce
1 TBSP of Honey

Let it marinate in a zip lock bag for 2 hours. To cook it, I put it into the toaster oven for 10 mins at 300 degrees. Then I took it out and placed it on a frying pan to fry both sides until it was fully cooked. I forgot how long it took, but it was less than 10 minutes. (You can also cook it fully in the toaster oven and serve) I took out the bone that held it together while it was frying, which is why its detached in the picture.. and I couldn't lift it up since I didn't have a spatula so it was easier to pick up that way. :x For final touches, I put an extra layer of honey over the salmon while it was still hot. I loveee foods with honey glazed over them. :)

And that's it! Please take note though, I'm no expert at cooking. I'm just merely sharing my ways of cooking things (or experimentations) since I'm currently trying to learn how to cook well. :)

What other ways of cooking salmon do you like?

As always, thank you so much for reading!
Angela
